Founded in the mid-14th century, the monastery survived the Ottoman conquest and remains a working religious community; its katholikon preserves 14th-century frescoes. It is part of the UNESCO group of monuments.

Yes — it is the only surviving Byzantine-era monastery in Thessaloniki and remains an active religious community.
It was founded in the later 14th century by the brothers Dorotheos and Markos Vlatades, disciples of the theologian Gregory Palamas. Set in gardens high in Ano Poli — where peafowl still roam — it's a UNESCO-listed monument and the city's only Byzantine monastery still active today.
