Aristotelous Square

Actualizado 2026Verificado a pieOn the seafront, the city's main square

The grand civic square of Thessaloniki, opening straight onto the waterfront — a sweep of arcaded, monumental architecture that is the city's living room. It was designed by the French architect Ernest Hébrard in 1918, the seafront centrepiece of his plan to rebuild the city after the Great Fire of 1917, though most of the square as it stands was built in the 1950s.

Bueno Saber

It is the main square of Thessaloniki, designed after the 1917 fire, lined with arcaded cafés and opening directly onto the seafront.

The French architect Ernest Hébrard, who drew it up in 1918 as the centrepiece of the grand replanning of Thessaloniki after the Great Fire of 1917. His sweep of arcaded, monumental architecture — including landmarks like the Electra Palace hotel and the Olympion cinema — frames the axis that runs from the upper town down to the sea.
