A colossal Roman domed rotunda built around 306 AD under the emperor Galerius, later a church and then a mosque, whose interior preserves some of the most important early-Christian mosaics in the world — one of the UNESCO-listed Paleochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki.

Geschiedenis
Hoe het ontstond
Built as part of the emperor Galerius's palace complex — probably intended as a mausoleum or temple — it was converted into a Christian church in the late 4th century, when its dome was lined with golden mosaics. Under Ottoman rule it became a mosque, and its minaret still stands, the only one surviving in the city.
