It's the best place to make sense of Thessaloniki's Byzantine heritage, tracing that world across eleven thematic galleries of mosaics, icons, frescoes and everyday objects. In 2005 it became the first Greek museum to win the Council of Europe Museum Prize, and it's housed in a celebrated modern building by the architect Kyriakos Krokos.
