Thessaloniki's 76-metre landmark tower on the Thessaloniki International Fair grounds — built in the late 1960s, on the site where Greece's first television broadcast took place at the 1960 Fair — crowned by a revolving café-bar that turns a full circle roughly once an hour for 360° views over the city, the seafront and the Thermaic Gulf. Picked out in colour after dark, its tiered silhouette is one of the modern skyline's most recognisable shapes.

Πώς δημιουργήθηκε

Designed in 1966 by the architect Alexandros Anastasiadis and completed by 1968 (opened to the public in 1970) for the Thessaloniki International Fair, the OTE Tower — named for the national telecoms company — paired a working communications mast with a public viewing tower. It was refurbished in 2005, and its slowly rotating upper floor now operates as the Skyline café-bar.

Yes — the upper floor is a revolving café-bar (the Skyline) open to the public. There's no separate entry ticket; you take the lift up and pay for whatever you order while the floor slowly turns for a full 360° panorama. Hours vary, so it's worth checking before you go.

It stands about 76 metres. Designed in 1966 and completed by 1968 (opening to the public in 1970) for the Thessaloniki International Fair, it was refurbished in 2005 and remains one of the city's most recognisable modern landmarks — crowned by a revolving café-bar that turns a full circle for 360° views over the city and the gulf.

Statue of Alexander the Great

A monumental bronze of Alexander the Great astride his horse Bucephalus, sword drawn, on the Nea Paralia seafront. Erected in 1973 and unveiled in 1974, the work of sculptor Evangelos Moustakas, it stands six metres tall — eleven with its plinth — one of the largest equestrian statues in Greece, flanked by his sarissas (spears) and a row of shields.
